Craigslist

Craiglist is the perennial favorite for finding all kinds of locally available items with an occasional priceless find. So, I have found some greatly nice antique furnishings with the help of my patience and creative searches. Number 10 on the list because it is important to be careful of who you are purchasing from. All kinds of stories about miscreants and ne’er-do wells abound. It is possible to meet up in a public place or better yet, the nearest Popo station.

1st Dibs

1stDibs is the most popular online marketplace for unique designs. I have been capturing the magic of Paris flea market since 2000, connecting individuals looking for the most beautiful things on earth with highly demanded producers and suppliers in vintage, old-fashioned furniture. Home dΓ©cor: art finery & fashion; home decor: Art Fine Jewelry And Fashion.

In the 1stDibs marketplace, there is over one million extraordinary items from furniture and fine art to jewelry and fashion. The company claims that it is an online market that connects design enthusiasts with over one million extraordinary items ranging from furniture and fine art to jewelry or fashion. In addition, the platform also allows buyers to communicate with seller at all stage of an order. It is possible to contact both clients and suppliers at all stages of the transaction, such as price negotiations, customization requirements, and items inquiries.

A major global marketplace for design and technology enthusiasts is 1stDibs, they are also an international company with great experience in creating products. The staff of 1stDibs share that energy as well as their team’s passion.

Offer Up

Offer up is similar to Craigslist in that the sellers are local but their support system and app are waaaaaaaay better than Craigslist. It hasn’t been around as long so the offerings may be more limited but it is quickly growing in users and sales. The limitation is, again, you have to meet with actual carbon-based life forms and possible stranger-danger! Proceed cautiously.

 eBay

The eBay website might seem like a cop out, but I would not be remiss to leave it out. How else can I find this sweet business card holder? In addition to this, you can buy and sell your heart’s content here for a fee, but eBay has grown into an immense site and it takes some searching and patience to hit gold.

Rejuvenation

Very new site for vintage and decor finds. I do not know how to sell here but you can find a lot of unique and unusual items. This is the real deal and while it’s not cheap, you will be the only one on your street with this vintage donkey amusement park mask. Maybe some people are into that.

 One King’s Lane

One King’s Lane has been around for awhile as a source for home decor but now they have a vintage section. Again, like most of these things, it’s hit or miss and some of the stuff is insanely pricey. I found this cool Cleo Hartwig ram sculpture for $269.00. Buying only.

ETSY

Etsy is a favorite of the world. Unique, artisanal lighting and furnishings are found on this site. Although Etsy only has the right to sell antiques, vintage or handmade goods but sometimes what is considered collectible or vintage is a stretch.  In order to find an artist that builds and designs their own products, you should read the reviews thoroughly. More than half of the vendors here are talented craftsmen.

EBTH (Everything but the house)

Another site is also a newer site. An online estate sale site is also used for individual and retail consignment sales. They don’t restrict items to antiques or vintage, but they have some decent selection of collectibles that can be found on your boat.

 CROWDYHOUSE

If Ikea and Etsy had a lovechild, then it would be Crowdyhouse. This Netherlands born gem was based on the foundation of supporting design and designers alike. From the website: “Life is too short not to create, not to love, and not to lend a helping hand to our designing brothers and sisters.”Think elevated and simple, Scandinavian and minimal. There are definitely quirky and unique finds to be had here. Curated for sure.

Chairish

Chairish has come a long way in one year. What originally started as a somewhat clunky website has become a beautifully polished wonderland of all things curated and vintage. They have everything and it is all very well vetted. Every piece is accurately described and they don’t allow junk to be sold on their site. That doesn’t always mean everything is pristine perfection but Chairish is 100% transparent. If that chaise needs reupholstering, you will know it and buy it accordingly. You can also make an offer on items if you are so inclined to do so. Sometimes the seller will accept. Sometimes they counter. Either way, it’s loads of fun and the prize is always something you will cherish.
